 AUGUST 9, 1960 – Karen Cappotto is born in Syracuse, New York

1. For those meeting you for the first time, who is Karen Cappotto?

That’s a funny question  I often ask myself.

2. What first brought you to Provincetown, and what made you decide this was home?

That’s a long story.

3. You’ve worn many hats over the years—artist, organizer, curator, advocate, and community builder. Which role feels most like you today?

Honestly it depends on the day and task at hand   Thank you for asking .

4. Missing Time explored memory, transformation, and alternate realities. Did that theme resonate with you?

 I’m attracted to ambiguity.

5. You’ve helped create opportunities for so many other artists. What have those experiences taught you about the importance of creative community? 

It’s essential.

6. Every artist has a moment that changes everything. Was there one for you?

When I received my  grant from LOWF 2011

7. What part of Provincetown’s creative spirit should never disappear? 

Continuity.

8. If you could place one work of art—or one object—in the Provincetown 300 Time Capsule, what would it be, and why?

“Welcome To The Picnic,” , its already there, xo.

9. What advice would you give to someone hoping to build a creative life in Provincetown today?  

Believe
